Vlaamse Vervoermaatschappij De Lijn
DL is an autonomous public company that is responsible for operating all regional and city public transport buses, trams and LRV lines in Flanders, Belgium. In 1991 DL originated from a merger of MIVA, MIVG and the Flemish part of the NMVB. “DL” is the commercial name of the Flemish Transportation Company or “Vlaamse Vervoermaatschappij” (VVM). DL operates and maintains tramlines in the cities of Gent and Antwerp, and along the Belgian coast. The inner city tramlines have sharp curves and are integrated in sometimes very narrow streets. DL aims at high quality, customer oriented public transportation with particular emphasis on sustainable operation with minimal noise and vibration intrusion for the inhabitants living close to the tracks. DL is working on the standardisation of its tram infrastructure taking into account rail wear and track noise as very important parameters. DL has past experience in European research projects through its successful involvement in QCITY and SAFERAIL.
Role in project
DL will assist in the development of track-based solutions (embedded track) and their validation. DL will assist in the evaluation of rail roughness growth. DL will facilitate the research by granting access to its networks for validation purposes and development purposes. DL will actively participate in the dissemination of the project results.
Experience relevant to the tasks allocated
DL has expertise in track design and track maintenance. The company has acquired valuable experience in European collaborative research projects through its participation in QCITY and SAFERAIL. The results obtained in these projects are a motivation to invest further in European collaborative research.
